Representative of the Renewable Energy Authority: 13 new projects including wind power plants

The Committee on Energy and Environment of the House of Representatives, during a meeting on Monday under the chairmanship of Engineer Talaat al-Swedi, the draft budget of the Authority for the development and use of new and renewable energy of 2019/2020, amounting to 7 billion and 132 million pounds.

Nafisa Hassan, representative of the Authority for the Development and Use of New and Renewable Energy, said that the Authority is mandated to implement Egypt's strategy for new and renewable energy 2030. The target is to represent 20% of energy in Egypt by 2022.

He added that the Authority has an ambitious plan to implement 13 projects, including solar power and wind power projects, including the construction of a 250 megawatt wind power plant in the Gulf of Suez and another 200 MW with Germany and Italy, noting that the projects to be established in the Gulf of Suez All in the heart of the desert and far from the beaches or tourist areas.

Nafisa Hassan pointed out that the projects include solar cells in Kom Ombo, and the establishment of stations to produce electricity from photovoltaic cells in Zafarana, pointing out that the focus is on the production of electricity from solar energy, especially because it is economic.

The representative noted that within the projects, the information center is being updated to ensure that all projects executed are monitored online.

The representative of the Authority for the Development and Use of New and Renewable Energy requested the Ministry of Finance to contribute to the payment of the Authority's fees for a period of time in order to enable the Authority to implement the debt schedule agreed upon with the banks.
