"Legislative" MPs agree to amend the anti-terrorism law

Policy

The Legislative Committee at its meeting today approved a draft law submitted by the government to amend some provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Law promulgated by Law No. 94 of 2015.

The government pointed out in the explanatory memorandum submitted by the Minister of Justice that the draft law faces the danger of terrorist crimes that threaten the foundations that characterize the state through its long history of security and safety and seeks to block the various forms of shelter for terrorist elements or provide them with safe haven or means that help them to hide away In the light of the practical reality demonstrated by the difficulty of implementing the confiscation provisions imposed by the Anti-Terrorism Law and the desire to allow the use of the competent authority by the Public Prosecution or the competent investigative authority.

According to the government, the bill faces the exploitation of terrorist elements of residential properties to facilitate the commission of crimes, conceal weapons and tools used and harboring criminal elements.

The project includes the establishment of regulations governing the mechanism of notification of leasing of real estate as a proactive step to prevent the threat of terrorism and monitoring the appropriate punishment against those who violate this obligation.

The draft law provides for the confiscation of real estate as a result of the conviction judgment and the approval of the authority of the Public Prosecution or the competent investigating authority, as the case may be, to close the places of manufacture or design of weapons used in any terrorist offense.
