MP Raef Tamraz, deputy of the Agriculture and Irrigation Committee of the House of Representatives, called on the Ministry of Agriculture to quickly develop a plan to deal with the fallworm that affects the corn crop, saying: "We have to put in place a mechanism to deal with this worm that threatens Egyptian crops, especially corn.
The undersecretary of the Committee on Agriculture and Irrigation in the House of Representatives stressed the need to work in advance before everyone is surprised by the presence of this worm in Egyptian agriculture and causing a major disaster. He pointed out the importance of establishing preventive measures to prevent and protect maize crop, especially after it destroyed the crop in 42 African countries. About 85% of the crop in the continent of the previous season, except Tunisia, Libya and Algeria.
This worm causes great damage to crops if it does not fight well, it prefers corn, and can feed on more than 80 additional plants. The first autumn worm was first discovered in Central and West Africa in early 2016 and soon spread to all Almost sub-Saharan Africa.
