The Da Vinci Assistant Panel was first exposed after an infrared scan

To mark the centenary of the death of Italian Leonardo da Vinci, a painting will be displayed at the National Museum in London by his favorite disciple Francesco Melzi (1493-1570), a painting restored in the 16th century.

The painting, called Flora, dates back to about 1520, and will be exhibited outside Russia for the first time after its restoration by the State Hermitage Museum.

Melzi's companion Leonardo and his assistant were largely responsible for maintaining master's books and graphics for future generations.

After the painting was restored, the true color of the picture was revealed, including strong blue color and hidden details.

Infrared imaging showed that Melzi ensured anatomical health by displaying the naked Flora figure before adding her clothes.

Red-shot also provided an opportunity to see the painting, along with details and rich coloring that had been lost for decades under layers of old varnish.
