Study: Low-fat diet reduces the incidence of breast cancer

Health and Medical

Health experts have long described the benefits of a low-fat diet to prevent heart disease, but now a large study suggests they may do the same against breast cancer.

According to the US medical site "HealthDayNews", Researchers found that eating low-fat foods reduced the risk of women dying from breast cancer by 21%. Moreover, women who ate low-fat diets also reduced the risk of dying from any cause by 15%.

"This is the only study that provides empirical evidence that food intervention can reduce the risk of women dying from breast cancer," said study author Dr Rowan Chilipovsky of the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute at the Harbor Center, University of California.

The diet has long been suspected to be a factor in cancer, and obesity has been linked to 12 different types of cancer, including postmenopausal breast cancer, according to the American Institute for Cancer Research.
