Romania has received funding from the European Union to modernize the public transport network in the capital Bucharest by developing tram lines with a smart system and adding more electric buses.

The city's mayor, Gabriela Feria, said in a press statement that 11 projects were signed under the regional program 2014-2020 with a total value of approximately 230 million euros, including a grant of more than 177 million euros.

According to the Romania-Insider website, the total value of the 13 projects under the ROP is € 272 million and the non-refundable funding is more than € 212 million.
