Scientists use DNA testing to identify fish living in lakes and rivers

science and technology

Not only has DNA been tested on humans, scientists have also used it in marine life, as they can now know fish living in lakes and rivers simply by testing DNA in water.

Scientists can now verify the types of water organisms in lakes and rivers through a DNA test, where experts can compare genetic material from blood and physical waste to water to see which species come from, according to the Daily Mail.

The UK Environment Agency [EEA] began exploring the potential of the technology seven years ago. It will introduce DNA-based monitoring programs in 2020 and will be used to track the spread of non-domestic species driven by high temperatures such as shrimp and killer species that invade other fish environments.

The organization began to study the applicability of environmental DNA or "eDNA" to their work in 2012, in order to provide a good life for different species, and progress in these technologies led to the possibility of using these chemical fingerprints.
