Al-Shamy Mosque is located in Abu Ghazi area in Mahalla Al-Kubra in Gharbia governorate. It is one of the most famous mosques where prayers are held in Al-Mahalla. It hosts the senior scholars of Al-Azhar University and recently visited Dr. Ahmed Omar Hashim, former President of Al-Azhar University.

A large number of residents of the city of Mahalla, and some of the neighboring villages, perform Taraweeh prayer at the mosque and the mosque is filled with worshipers, and the men stroll around the streets to pray.

The city of Mahalla is also known for the existence of a number of major mosques where citizens are keen to pray, including Al Hanafi Mosque, Abdul Hai Khalil and Qadoos, Abu Fadhl, Abdul Halim Mahmoud Mosque, Sidi Abed Rabbo Sharnubi and Shishtawi Mosque.
