Organizers: Expo Dubai 2020 will attract 11 million foreign visitors

Dubai may attract 11 million foreign visitors to Expo 2020, which will give a boost to the emirate's tourism sector, organizers said in an interview.

Foreigners will account for 71 per cent of the total number of visitors to the show, which is already hosted by Dubai, which has already attracted 15.9 million tourists in 2018.

The exhibition starts in October 2020 and lasts for six months. According to an independent study by Ernst & Young, the company will contribute 122.6 billion dirhams ($ 33.4 billion) in the UAE economy between 2013 and 2031.

Ahmed Al Khatib, chief executive of development and real estate delivery, told Reuters that construction work related to EXPO was completed at 67.5 percent and that all major projects were being completed by the end of the year.

Of 192 participating countries, 81 are building their own pavilions and 111 are renting pavilions constructed by Expo.

Organizers said Iran, Israel and Qatar would participate in the exhibition, each with its own wing, and no formal ties between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, but the two countries shared their concerns about Iran.

Qatar has not officially announced its participation, and the government liaison office has so far declined to comment on a request for comment.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt cut diplomatic and trade ties with Qatar in June 2017, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism. Qatar denies the allegations.

"It is a global event, an event for the world, it was our commitment when we presented our offer and won, to call the world to him and we are committed to our word," said Sanjeev Khosla, vice president of sales and marketing.
