Online meetings to prepare cases in the courts of Japan

Japanese judicial authorities in the local courts of Tokyo and seven other cities have decided to hold online meetings in February 2020 to link judges and lawyers through the Internet to help facilitate the necessary meetings of the cases, Japanese sources said.
Supreme Court sources said the new system is designed to allow those involved in civil proceedings to share case material and to confirm the claims of plaintiffs and defendants over the Internet, thereby facilitating and speeding up the proceedings of such cases.
The program will be the first in the provincial courts of Tokyo, Osaka, Hiroshima, Nagoya and others, as well as the Supreme Court of Intellectual Property in Tokyo. The trial will be extended to local courts in five other cities in May 2020, In subsequent phases.
