From Rabah Maajer to Mohamed Salah .. View the history of the Arab Championships

World football

LONDON [Reuters] – Egypt striker Mohamed Salah is set to lead Liverpool to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday at the Wanda Mediterraneo stadium in the Spanish capital Madrid.

Mohamed Salah scored the second consecutive appearance in the final of the Champions League, having already participated in the final of the final version, which ended with the victory of Real Madrid to Liverpool 3 – 1.

Mohamed Salah hopes to lead Liverpool to the Champions League title for the sixth time in his history, with the return of the Reds to the continental title to 2005.

Mohamed Salah is not the first Arab player to compete in the Champions League final, where the Arab players began their Champions League final in 1987.

The Algerian legend Rabah Magar led Porto to the Champions League title in 1987 after scoring a 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich to become the first Arab player to crown the Champions League.

The following year, Moroccan Ridouane Hajri recorded the appearance of Arab players in the history of the Champions League finals, after taking part with Benfica in the final of the 1988 edition against the Dutch Eindhoven.

The match ended with Benfica's 6-0 loss to PSV Eindhoven.

Arab players missed appearances in the Champions League until 2017, when Mehdi Ben Attia, the former Moroccan club's former club Juventus, played for Real Madrid in the Welsh match in Cardiff, ending with a 4-1 win over Real.

The next year, Real Madrid midfielder Ashraf Hakimi, Borussia Dortmund, was in the 2018 final against Liverpool and ended the match with a 3-1 win over Real.

Ashraf Al-Hakimi did not participate in the match, after being excluded from the Royal list just a few minutes before the start of the final.
