A painting by the artist known as "Picasso of China" was sold for a record amount of £ 2.64 million at a global auction.

The painting's artist, Da Qian, lived between 1899 and 1983, and the painting was on sale in the Salisbury area by the son of the original owner of Berkshire.

The painting went to a mainland Chinese trader who is the successful buyer among three bidders in the auction room that sold the painting.

"We were all hoping that the painting would earn more than half a million dollars," said one art expert.
