Egypt Participates in ITU Symposium on Environment and Climate

Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology [MCIT], will participate in the 13th Symposium on ICT, Environment and Climate Change on 13 May and the meeting of Study Group 5, "Environment, Climate Change and Recycling Economy", organized by the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector [ITU-T] May 22 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The symposium is organized by the International Telecommunication Union [ITU], the Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, the Economic Commission for Europe, the United Nations Environment Program, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the United Nations Human Settlements Program, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the United Nations Women's Fund.
The theme of this year's symposium is "The role of advanced technologies in combating climate change and achieving a recycling economy". The seminar aims to stimulate global dialogues on the use of advanced technologies to activate climate and recycling measures.
The symposium coincides with the meeting of Study Group 5, with Study Group 5 focusing on studies on approaches to assessing the impact of ICTs on climate change and the publication of guidelines for the use of ICT in an environment-sensitive manner. Under the Commission's mandate for the environment, it is also responsible for studying design methodologies to reduce the negative environmental impacts of ICTs and e-waste, for example by recycling ICT facilities and equipment.
Egypt is the Vice-Chair of Study Group 5 for the period from 2016 to 2020. She also served as Rapporteur of Question No. 7 on "Recycling Economy, including Electronic Waste", as well as a Question Assistant on "Climate Change, ICT Assessment and Development Goals "Egypt is one of the oldest members of the International Telecommunication Union [ITU] and has 16 member bodies of the ITU. All of them belong to the private sector. Egypt is also a founding member of the Partnership Initiative for Linking the World .
On the other hand, Egypt actively participates in the ITU's telecommunication development activities and has succeeded in establishing the first regional sub-group in the region, which will enhance the regional presence of the Union and increase its activities in developing countries in Africa and the Arab world.
