Egypt chairs the Ministerial Conference on the Role of Women in Development in the Islamic Cooperation Countries 2020

Egypt will preside over the eighth session of the Ministerial Conference on "Women in Development in the OIC Member States" next year. The presidency of the conference will be transferred from Burkina Faso to Egypt.
Ambassador Naela Gabr, member of the Advisory Committee for Women of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) on Africa, said on the sidelines of the fourth meeting of the Committee, which was held today and will last for one day at the headquarters of the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with the participation of 9 experts from different countries. The OIC countries represent the three geographical regions (Arab, African and Asian, three from each geographical region), where they discussed activating the role of the Organization in the field of empowerment and advancement of women.
The meeting also discussed the strategy of the ministerial conference for the advancement of women and support the accession to the statutes of the Organization for the Development of Women, an organization of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to be established in Cairo, in addition to the efforts exerted by the committee to carry out its tasks, To the next session of the Ministerial Conference on Women, to be chaired by Egypt, in activating and strengthening the role of the Organization in the empowerment and advancement of women in a way that allows ministerial conferences to issue effective and enforceable decisions and recommendations within the framework of development programs McCain at all levels.
She stressed that the similarity of the development issues in the OIC Member States and the increasing common challenges in the region and the world prompted the OIC and its Ministerial Conference to promote Islamic solidarity among Member States and to empower and involve women in the development efforts of Islamic countries. In order to achieve security and stability in the countries of the world, pointing out that the seven ministerial conferences held by the Organization since December 2006 and until last year 2018, on the role of women in development in Member States put the issue of empowerment of women as a main item on the agenda.
During the meeting, Ambassador Nayla Gabr pointed out that during the reign of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, women received great attention and appreciation for their role. This concern was manifested in the first speech of the president after winning the elections. He promised to work hard for women to have a role in political life. A fair share in the executive positions in the state, and overcoming the obstacles in front of them in parliamentary positions. This promise was fulfilled by the president as a strong motivation for Egyptian women to continue their struggle with the issue of empowerment.
She pointed out that the support of the political leadership of women came from the appreciation of its history, its gifts, its abilities and its immediate response to the demands of the issues of national work at home and the developments of the new world. These challenges require the full participation of women in building the renaissance and progress in Egypt, Leading to the establishment of the National Council for Women, which was considered an important turning point in the movement of progress.
Gabr pointed out the 2017 year for Egyptian women, in which all concerned bodies of the state went to focus on discussing women's issues and working to overcome the challenges facing them, thus supporting the process of economic, political and social empowerment. And the supervisor of women in the House of Representatives, pointing out that Egypt was one of the first countries that gave women their political rights in full in the election, and to run for parliamentary assemblies, under the Constitution of 1956, more than half a century ago.
