Al-Kaf: Zamalek finished 16 years of absence in the Confederation Cup
The African Football Confederation [CAF] highlighted the crowning glory of the Zamalek Club for the first time in its history.
Zamalek beat Zamalek on a volley with a penalty shoot-out in the evening's match at Borg El Arab stadium.
Zamalek and Nahdha Berkane drew 1-1 in the first leg of the African Confederation Cup final before the White House managed to steal the title by penalty shootout.
The African Football Confederation [AFF] said on its official website that Zamalek had ended 16 years of absence from winning the Confederations Cup.
"The penalty shootout for the Egyptian giants has smiled at Zamalek to achieve their first title in the history of the Confederations Cup and end a 16-year continental feud. The defeat broke the hearts of the Orange Battalion, which reached the first continental final in history."
"Zamalek can now celebrate the end of a long tradition of winning titles, especially since the white team will not be able to win a continental championship since 2003 when they got the African Super Cup."
Zamalek will face the winner of the two-legged draw between Esperance of Tunisia and Morocco's Odda Casablanca in the African Champions League final.
