Life Science has shed light on the remains of an ancient castle dating back to the 26th Dynasty, the last line of rule by the original Egyptians before the Persians conquered the country in 525 BC.

Archaeologists said that the remains of the castle discovered in the Sinai provide a better understanding of the development of Egyptian castles in the Sinai region, but also provide insights on the strategic importance of Sinai in ancient times.

It was discovered in northern Sinai in a location known as "Tal al-Kidwa" and was an important site for the defense of ancient Egypt, because it is a border area, and the army of the pharaohs was stopped against any outside invasion.

Archaeologists were able to discover an ancient entrance to the castle in the form of a side gate on the north-eastern side of the wall. On the right of this entrance are the remains of the room, which may have been occupied by the guards who watched the gate.

There is evidence that the ancient Egyptians built many fortresses in the desert region to protect the heart of Egypt from the invasion, so they set up an eastern border defense network dating back to the Middle Ages, according to the American School of Oriental Research.
