15.1% increase in the index of manufacturing and extractive industries during March 2019

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) issued on Wednesday 22/5/2019 the preliminary data for the index of production of manufacturing and extractive industries for the month of March 2019.

The index of manufacturing and extractive industries (excluding crude oil and petroleum products) reached 142.80 during the month of March 2019 (initial) compared to 124.10 in February 2019 (final), a rise of 15.1%.

Economic Activity:

The index of the food products industry reached 108.72 during the month of March 2019 compared to February 2019, reaching 93.22, an increase of 16.6%, due to the increase in contracts and supplies and the high quantity of ground wheat.

The index reached 457.91 during the month of March 2019 compared to February 2019, which amounted to 287.43, an increase of 59.3% due to the increase in export contracts.

Economic activities that witnessed a decline:

The index of the mining and quarrying industry was 125.35 during the month of March 2019 compared to February 2019, reaching 170.95, a decrease of 26.7% due to the suspension of salt exports during the summer season.

The index of the furniture industry reached 67.23 during the month of March 2019 compared to February 2019, reaching 78.92, a decrease of 14.8% due to the market situation and low demand.
