Newspaper: Egypt ends the studies of the launch of 11 areas of gas exploration in the western Mediterranean
Egypt's Al-Shorouq newspaper reported on Wednesday that the company has completed studies to offer about 11 areas for exploration and exploration of natural gas in the western Mediterranean region.
Egypt is seeking to transform itself into a major energy hub in the region through gas liquefaction and re-export, after it stopped importing gas at the end of last year.
"The auction is expected to end by the end of this year or by the first quarter of next year," the newspaper quoted the official as saying.
Reuters was not immediately available to contact the Petroleum Ministry for comment.
Italy's Eni discovery of a field back in 2015, which has reserves of 30 trillion cubic feet of gas, opened the government's appetite for new bids amid international demand to enter the Egyptian market for exploration and exploration.
In February, Egypt announced the largest bid in the history of EGAS, in which Shell, Exxon Mobil, Petronas, Dia, BP and Eni won five gas exploration concessions in Egypt to drill 20 wells in sectors located in the Mediterranean border areas as well as land sectors in the Nile Delta .
During the past few years, Egypt has demarcated its maritime borders with some countries in an attempt to search for and find oil and gas within its borders without any dispute with any of these countries.
