In the hour .. know what is going to happen to your heart after drinking the energy drink?

Health and Medical

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A team of American scientists warned against drinking the "900ml" big energy drink within an hour because it is a danger to the heart.

The Energy Drink (946 ml) at such a small time raises blood pressure and temporarily affects the rhythm of the heartbeat, the researchers said.

However, scientists have warned that caffeine is not responsible – and other ingredients used in flavored beverages are the problem.

The researchers at the University of Slough Ocean asked 34 volunteers to take one of the energy drinks, and consumed all drinks within 60 minutes energy drink or placebo, and repeated the experiment in three different days.

The placebo drink contained gaseous water, lemon juice and crispy flavor, and all drinks were placed in identical containers. The tested energy drinks, which scientists did not specify, contained 304 to 320 milligrams of caffeine.

The authors of the study claimed that caffeine in doses less than 400 mg is not expected to lead to any changes in ECG.

The researchers measured the electrical activity of the hearts of volunteers by electrocardiogram, which records the way the heart beats, recorded the blood pressure of the participant. All measurements were taken at the beginning of the study and every 30 minutes for four hours after consumption.

The results showed that volunteers who drank energy drinks had an average blood pressure of about 5 mm Hg compared to those who received the placebo.

They found that the "normal" interval of QT – The time it takes for the ventricles in the heart to generate impulses again – decreased by 2% which means that energy drinks increase the delay.

Doctors warn if interval QT Very short or long, it may cause abnormal heartbeat, which may lead to irregular heartbeat that threatens life.

Professor Sachin Shah, author of the study, said the risk "can not be attributed to caffeine", calling for urgent trials to investigate the element to blame.

"Adults with high blood pressure should also reduce their consumption to avoid mutations that can be fatal," Shah said.

Researchers at the University of Texas in Houston last year said drinks narrowed blood vessels, limiting blood flow to vital organs.
