The story revolves around the Ten Commandments recommended by Grandfather Abdel Rahman to his grandchild, whom the Grandfather only calls the fallen child whose name we do not know throughout the novel. As if the writer makes the grandson a mirror for the reader, and made it a mirror of the grandfather himself, as he said on the tongue of the grandson.
Over time, the story runs parallel lines, from which we see the line of narration of events from the grandfather to the death, where the time that he and the people who witnessed and witnessed him, as we see the line of the story itself, as narrated by the grandfather in a flashback.
Under this line we glimpse other hidden lines that go inside the people to complement the unfinished little stories, but they insist on completing them. We see the story of his love – too intimate and extreme – for the wife of his closest friend, turning into another kind of firmer and warmer feeling. From any thing I have encountered, as we see the wife of Salim and is adhering to its position in the house despite the death of her husband the most influential in the house and land, and despite the passage of time and teach the boys in the university to become the talents of mathematical arithmetic simple and naive does not qualify them to maintain its old site is strong, and we see Khadija Walls are addressed by "L. A name for them "who threaten to demolish the house and the loss of the family, which made the people of the house treat them with a mixture of irony and pity before the turn of time and wonder if she had seen all this before with a vision".
