Within the framework of the Eighth Faisal Book Fair, organized by the Egyptian General Book Organization, which concludes today, a symposium on cultural diversity was held in which Dr. Anwar Maghith and Dr. Tarek Al-Nu'man participated.
Dr. Ahmed Zayed began by asking: Why diversity and its benefits? In ancient times, Greek philosophers said that man is social in nature, and Ibn Khaldun agreed with them. Cooperation is the basis of life and this cooperation is with different human beings and man must accept diversity.
Zayed added that diversity of jobs first deepens the idea of moral duty and a sense of responsibility. Secondly, diversity is flourishing, and cultural diversity is the secret of people's progress.
"Cultural diversity is the year of life, the idea of unanimity is wrong, and consensus is not necessarily true. The diversity of opinions comes from free choice, but there is a cultural diversity that does not come from choice, such as the variety associated with religious universities or dialects," said Anwar Megith. , For example the state of France, and how UNESCO saw that this diversity is the source of intellectual wealth, which is a means of development, and the diversity of religions and multilingualism and cultural diversity does not threaten the unity of the state, but is the basis for progress.
For his part, Tariq Al-Nu'man said that the subject of cultural diversity is a rather complex subject, but in fact, that anything has more than one face. The Cultural Diversity speech said, "We have to rethink how to put it. Diversity is a manifestation of difference."
Al-Nu'man also criticized elite culture and its superiority over the culture of the public. "The class view of culture has to be abandoned, and the more advanced cultures are not entitled to the stigma of backwardness," he said.
Al-Nu'man added that one of the most contrary words to cultural diversity is tolerance. When the highest acceptance of the other is a kind of tolerance, I give some kind of kindness to the other. We should use other vocabulary and half the cultural diversity of this word because in fact it is not preferable for anyone to accept But this diversity must derive from the idea of equivalence.
In the artistic activity, the Qena Folklore Ensemble participated and presented a review of the popular games for children. It also provided the dance of the skirt and the joy. The daily workshops for the children were also held, including a coloring workshop, a fum workshop and colorful fairy tales.
