Arsenal announces absence of Makhtarian for the European League final for political reasons

Arsenal's Henrik Mkhitarian, the ginner from Chelsea's match in the Europa League final on May 29, is set to play at the Baku stadium in Azerbaijan.

Arsenal said in an official statement that after consulting with Makhtarian and his family, the club decided not to travel with the Gangers to Baku to compete in the European League final, to ensure his safety.

Arsenal have notified the European Football Federation [EFA] of the decision to ban Armenian travel, Henrik Makhtarian, to Azerbaijan for the final of the European League.

In his statement, the Arsenal club expressed its deep sadness at the absence of two players from the UEFA final in circumstances such as that because it was a rare event in a footballer's career.

Arsenal will conclude that Makhtarian will continue training with the team in preparation for the European League final before traveling directly to Baku.
