Al-Azhar observatory: Civil society is a key partner in combating extremism
Al-Azhar Observatory issued a report on the role of civil society in combating extremism, he explained
First: Civil Society and Volunteer Work:
The "civil society" of all its organizations can maximize the idea of volunteering and, above all, highlight its importance to individuals and entities in different societies and eliminate the indifference and negativity that prevails over the voluntary work of many citizens.
Moreover, civil society can encourage students of different schools, students of different universities and youth of both sexes, Muslims and others, to participate in philanthropy and volunteer work, in order to provide them with suitable areas to absorb their youth energies and to preserve them from the virus of violence and extremism. Take responsibility for the other, love the good of all, and give them the opportunity to get acquainted and dialogue based on the foundations of diversity and integration and differences in the framework of tolerance, and strengthen the idea of brotherhood and humanity, Social responsibility and that they are part of the whole humanitarian project, are affected by the problems that are solved, and they are also part of the solution, not just members of the school or university where they are learning, or the city or village in which they live.
Also, charitable and voluntary work brings young people out of the framework of tyranny, which dominated everything in our modern world. Hence, the child and the young man learn that there is a lot of work and duties that should be done without getting any money.
Second: Civil society, literacy and fighting ignorance
There is no doubt that ignorance is one of the most important reasons for extremism and falling into the clutches of extremist groups, especially the organization calling on the terrorist who opened his doors to all without regard to a certain scientific or religious level. The separation of the organization is the allegiance of its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. The love of reading, reading and critical thinking based on the realization of the mind in reading and hearing in individuals and societies, especially young people.
Civil society can play a large and important role in combating illiteracy and illiteracy in cooperation with schools and universities, and encouraging university students, especially students of faculties of education, to carry out field research and graduate projects in the field of literacy and adult education. In the past, literacy was one of the activities and voluntary efforts of students, teachers and staff to harness their energies and fill their spare time.
Civil society, in collaboration with specialists from religious institutions, headed by Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, can eliminate the "religious illiteracy" of some, which is one of the most important causes of extremism, and the pursuit of violence and terrorism. All extremist organizations should rely on them to attract young people. Therefore, religious awareness projects and initiatives should be prepared and organized by civil society, promoted by the media and used by scholars of Al-Azhar.
It is therefore possible to say that participation in philanthropy and volunteerism is an important part of preventing extremism in the future and helps young people to strengthen their affiliation. Civil society organizations – as well as mosques, churches, schools, universities, youth centers and scout camps – should encourage and train children and young people to participate. In charitable and voluntary work; and thus we have struck a share in helping the poor and the needy and to meet some of their needs, and on the other hand instill in our youth the religious and human values that protect them from the intellectuals Extremism.
What is needed today is philanthropic and voluntary work, with 2 billion people living in poverty and 753 million living in extreme poverty or below the poverty line, according to a report prepared by the International Development Initiatives [IDI] and published on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day 2018 AD ".
