The first Egyptian Honey Festival will be held next October

Dr. Mona Mehrez, Deputy Minister of Agriculture for Livestock, Poultry and Fisheries Affairs, discussed Monday with Fathi Bahiri, head of the Union of Arab beekeepers, to determine the date of the Egyptian honey bee festival, which will be held on Wednesday 16 October for three days.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Tarek Sulaiman, head of the livestock sector, and Dr. Abdul Rashid Ghanem, supervisor of the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and head of research at the Animal Health Research Institute of the Agricultural Research Center

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture for Livestock, Poultry and Fisheries Affairs expressed her enthusiasm for holding a festival that brings together the honey producers in Egypt to emphasize the importance of the role of bees in the environmental balance and to raise the awareness of the community and the importance of honey as a food product and a high nutritional value. Where one of the most important economic activities promising by introducing young people to the honey bee industry and its economic returns to open new markets for producers

According to the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, for the affairs of livestock, poultry and fisheries, Egypt mentioned in the Torah that it is a country of milk and honey. The Holy Quran mentioned honey as a cure for people. Besides, the Pharaohs used to put honey in the tombs of kings to expel evil spirits. Pharaonic honey bees were covered and retained taste until discovered.

For his part, Fathi Bahiri, president of the Union of Arab beekeepers, said that most of the world's honey producing countries celebrate honey day, such as the Russian Honey Festival and the celebration of Slovenia by Honey Day. The head of the Union of Arab beekeepers said that the citizens of the Arab countries do not exceed per capita consumption of 100 grams per year while the European citizen consumes more than 2 kilograms of honey per year, which makes us think a lot about the reasons for depriving the Arab citizen of the consumption of natural material to bear food and natural medicine.

Bahiri explained that he will hold scientific seminars specialized for beekeepers to present the latest findings in the field of production of honey and pest control, as well as lectures for young people on modern beekeeping and economic feasibility of projects of beekeeping.

The head of the Union of Arab beekeepers called on all those interested in health and the environment to participate in the Egyptian honeymoon which was set on October 16 for three days each year under the slogan "Egyptian Honey Day" to bring together honey producers in Egypt. And attracting tourists and interested in the manufacture of honey bees from Arab countries and various countries of the world as well as increasing public awareness of the importance of honey, food and medicine also includes the festival of recreational activities for children, it is worth mentioning that today coincides with the International Day of Honey, which is celebrated on May 20 each year.
