The Writers Union of Africa, Asia and Latin America appealed to all intellectuals and writers in the countries of the three continents to make efforts to confront the destructive ideas and principles advocated by the extreme right in a number of countries of the world and to offer alternative thought based on brotherhood, justice and equality among human beings. "The role of the writer and the intellectual is not limited to monitoring and analyzing the reality as a negative spectator subject to the reality, but a supreme message is the resistance of injustice and violence through creativity and the introduction of ideas, principles and theories," said Sharif al-Shobashi, secretary-general of the Asia, Africa and Latin America Book Association. Al-Shobashi expressed the Union's deep concern about the rise of the extreme right and the high percentage of votes in the European parliamentary elections held on Sunday.
