The government attaches great importance to the coastal areas of the Central, East and West Delta, which includes the governorates of Port Said, Damietta, Dakahlia, Kafr El Sheikh and Beheira, which are among the most affected by the risks of climate change and sea level rise due to the low levels of natural land Landfall, where a large population, industries, infrastructure, agriculture, tourism and development projects are concentrated along the low northern coastal lands .
The Nile Delta is considered to be the fertile agricultural land to be preserved. The Nile Delta accounts for more than 50% of the country's economic activity through agriculture, industry, tourism and fisheries.
Due to the severe storms caused by climate change and rising tides associated with sea level rise to coastal flooding leading to the sinking of the lowlands annually, the exploitation of low-lying coastal areas north of the international road in the Nile Delta governorates, which is affected by climate change and sea-level rise in development work And the investment for decades, which led to the Ministry of Irrigation to implement its plan to protect all coastal areas vulnerable to erosion and the decline of the shoreline investments estimated at about 3 billion pounds, in addition to other sources to expand the funding of Tel Projects in those areas.
The government received a grant of $ 31.5 million from the Green Climate Fund and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to protect the areas most affected by climate change and sea-level rise of about 70 kilometers by using types of protection suitable for the coastal environment..
