A national dialogue on the reuse of wastewater in Egypt begins today with the cooperation of a number of international organizations, the International Center for Agricultural Research, the Arab Water Council, the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Wastewater, other stakeholders,

The aim of the dialogue is to consult on the current situation of sanitation and reuse in Egypt and the preparation of a report on sanitation and reuse of water more and more safely through the development of a national strategy for the reuse of water in Egypt until 2030.

The Government is keen to reduce the gap between water demand and water consumption in various areas. A 2037 Water Resources Management Plan has been prepared to determine how Egypt can secure its water resources in the future, both for quantity and quality of water, and how these resources can be best utilized socially or Economic or environmental conditions that are consistent with the goals of sustainable development 2030.

A World Bank report found that the lack of potable water and sanitation cost the MENA region about $ 21 billion a year in economic losses, and measures to improve the management and distribution of scarce water resources are vital to the region's growth and stability.

More than 60% of the MENA population is in high or very high water stress areas, compared to the global average of about 35%. Despite water scarcity, the region has the lowest water tariff in the world and the highest proportion of water support to output The increase in water service fees would indicate the real value of decreasing resources and encourage their conservation. It could also provide funding for the protection of water resources, the maintenance of infrastructure, and the provision of services in a manner that Fair and regular.
