Damietta governorate calls for parliament to increase its financial allocations in the Maronites

DAMASCUS, (SANA) – Representatives of Damietta province on Tuesday called for an increase in the budget allocated to the province's budget for the new fiscal year 2019/2020.

Major General Essam al-Leithi, secretary general of Damietta province, said that the governorate has identified its needs to cover a number of items through increased support, in addition to reducing the budget deficit from last year.

Nadia Ahmed, Budget Officer in Damietta Governorate, said during the meeting that she discussed the Damietta 2019/2020 budget project that the revenues increased over last year because of the resorts and funds item. The governorate reduced the budget deficit item in the first section to 127 million pounds instead of 155 2 million in the past year, and also called for increasing the provisions of the second section of the service centers (traffic, civil protection, and equipment working 24 hours).

She explained that the province has introduced some items in the funds, including 10% for the reconstruction of mosques, and 10% for educational buildings, in addition to raising the value of sanitation workers "Taril". "The governorate needs 300 million pounds in the sixth section, because the road network is almost nonexistent, in addition to 7 million pounds for electricity, in addition to strengthening the support of civil protection projects and the traffic allocated to it 1.5 million pounds," said Mahrous Abdel Hadi, director general of planning and follow-up in Damietta. Which is insufficient and does not cover the purchase of fire engines, security services and traffic.

He pointed out that "Damietta of the provinces that do not cover their own funds, and called for financial strengthening of those important items. He also pointed out that the allocation of 285 million pounds for the city furniture in Damietta, which ended by 98%, but there are 150 million pounds maturing four months ago, leaving 85 million pounds.
