Switzerland's child protection authorities have ordered a woman to stop putting photographs of her seven-year-old granddaughter on social networking sites on the Internet.

According to the news site "L'Aqual", the authorities came after the mother of the girl, who reportedly had a different relationship with the grandmother, filed a complaint with the child protection services in the Bern area.

The Child Protection Foundation then sent a letter to the grandmother asking her to stop publishing pictures and video clips of the girl on the Internet, but when the grandmother continued to photograph the girl, the child protection service threatened her with a legal penalty if she refused to comply.

The Child Protection Foundation said such disputes over children's images on social networking sites are becoming increasingly common in Switzerland.
