Air pollution kills 20,000 a year in Ghana

A recent report shows that some 20,000 people die every year in Ghana from exposure to air pollution in the country.
About 2,800 people died in Accra, and the number is expected to increase to about 4,600 by 2030, said Aba-Sarbong, deputy executive director of the Environmental Protection Agency.
"Respiratory diseases are the second highest in malaria among the 10 most diseases in Ghana," Sarbong told a news conference, referring to cooperation between EPA and the Accra Capital Council on setting a roadmap for improving air quality.
He explained that the estimated economic cost of Africa alone from indoor and outdoor air pollution was close to about 250 billion dollars annually.
