A huge flaming ball illuminates the skies of southern Australia
A huge fireball lit up the sky of Adelaide and Melbourne, southern Australia, in a phenomenon monitored by many residents and recorded by their mobile phone cameras.
The New York Post quoted the US Department of Aeronautics and Space (NASA) as saying that a "fireball" the size of a car lit up the skies of southern Australia, including Victoria.
"It's obvious that this fireball people talk about on social media is only a small sheath or asteroid and that it evaporated after breaking through the skies of southern Australia," Australian astronomer David Vinally said.
The head of the South Australia Astronomical Society, Paul Cornau, confirmed that the fireball was a "very bright shea."
