Statistics: The general inflation rate is 13.2% for the year in May

The Consumer Price Index issued by the Statistics Authority revealed that the annual inflation rate for May 2019 was 13.2%, compared to 11.5% during the same month of 2018.

It had recorded 12.5% ​​on the annual basis in April 2019.

The index, which was announced by the agency on Monday morning, showed that the general index of consumer prices reached 311.1 points in the month of May, up 1% from the previous April.

According to the Statistics Authority, the reasons for this rise in the monthly inflation rate for May 2019 are attributed to the rise in the prices of fruit group by 18.1%, meat and poultry group by 0.7%, fish and seafood group by 1.2% (1.3%), the Group of Takeaway (1.3%) and the Tour Group (0.8%).

For its part, the sources attributed to the device that the reason for the high rate of inflation at the monthly level, due to the month of Ramadan and the high demand of citizens on consumer goods and high consumption rates, which raises demand and increase prices.
