Dr. Talaat Abdel-Qan, President of the Regional Union of NGOs, praised the draft law establishing the Drug Authority, stressing the importance of having a strong body that manages the medicine system in Egypt and that Egypt should return to leadership after its role has declined significantly.

This came during a hearing of the Health Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, now, on the draft law submitted by the government on the institutional organization of medicine, pharmaceuticals, supplies and medical technology.

"It is necessary to take advantage of the international experience with the FDA, and what is important is whether the body is independent or not, whether it is continuous or not. This body can purify the drug laws, the pharmaceutical industry is important and there are cadres. "He said.

Talat Abdul Qani supported the view of some MPs demanding the abolition of the Higher Council for Medicine and Medical Technology, which is stipulated in the draft law, saying: "Historically the higher councils have proved unsuccessful."
