Paper Division: The volume of newsprint tender decreased from 100 thousand tons to only 20

Amr Khadr, head of the General Division of Paper at the Union of Chambers of Commerce, revealed that the newspaper printing press witnessed some noticeable decline in the world. He pointed out that the volume of the tender of newsprint and newspapers was 100 thousand tons in 2008 and this year registered only 20 thousand tons.
He said that the international paper prices witnessed a significant decline from January 2019 until the end of the first quarter of the same year. He pointed out that Egypt's local paper production factories, Qena and Egypt Advo, have reduced prices by 5-6%.
He added in statements to "the seventh day", that the price of tons of imported paper after customs and all expenses between 15 thousand pounds to 15,500 per ton, while the price of tons of local paper recorded 16.600 or 16.700 pounds per ton, an increase of about one thousand pounds from the importer
He pointed out that the majority of traders and printers resort to buying imported paper, pointing out the importance of the local factories to consider the price of paper and decline in prices according to international prices, stressing that the high domestic price drives the owners of printing presses to the direction of import.
On the other hand, the Head of the Paper Division confirmed that the school book accounts for the bulk of the paper industry in Egypt, accounting for 80% of the paper and printing market.
He pointed out that the annual production volume of the paper plant is 120 thousand tons, and the Edfu plant produces 160 thousand tons, pointing out that the market consumption of paper is about 500 thousand tons of paper, and imported from Germany, Portugal, India, China, Russia, Finland, America and Russia.
