Four thousand policemen to secure the final of the Champions League between Tottenham and Liverpool
MADRID [Reuters] – Spain's security authorities have announced a "high alert" to secure the Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
According to Spanish media, the security authorities have stabilized the deployment of 4000 policemen in the stadium "Wanda Mitropolitano" and in the surrounding areas and the gathering of fans and some other areas of the capital, "Madrid".
Spanish police fear the outbreak of the riots with the influx of about 32 thousand English fans to "Madrid" for the upcoming game.
Police forces have already started preparations for the meeting. Apart from the airport, bus stations and some other means of transport, security personnel will be deployed in the places where the event is celebrated.
This is the fifth time that the Spanish capital Madrid has hosted the final of the Champions League throughout history. This is also the first time in history that the stadium of Wanda Metropolitano, the home of Atletico Madrid, has hosted the final of the continental competition, Bernabeu, "Real Madrid stronghold of the previous four finals.
The European Football Federation [UEFA] has already decided to make a final 1957 edition of the continental competition at the Santiago Bernabeu, and Real have won 2-0 at Fiorentina.
The same stadium hosted the final of the 1969 edition, which combines Italian Milan and Ajax Amsterdam, and AC Milan managed to win 4-1.
The Santiago Bernabeu stadium hosted the final of the Champions League for the third time, when Nottingham Forest met England's Hamburg in the 1980 final. The match, which ended with the English team's victory for a free game, was the final of the 2010 edition of Inter Milan and Bayern Munich Germany, which ended with Inter winning 2 – 0.
