He added that this project is the result of the meetings of technical committees and joint guidance between the two ministries, where a joint report was signed in 2017 to start preparing for the important and vital project. The National Water Research Center And the protection of the safety of the Koya and Albert lakes from the degradation caused by these weeds, and the utilization of weeds for the production of biofuels and the production of compost. The project has produced many technical studies that can contribute to the generalization of the experiment in a larger number of Located in Uganda.
He explained that the workshop reviewed all the project activities and the results of the studies and also listened to the experiences and results of the project from the perspective of the beneficiaries of the project in selected sites in the lakes of Kyoga and Albert.
Dr. Mamdouh Hassan, head of the Central Administration for Technical Cooperation with the Nile Basin Countries, also spoke about the history of cooperation between Egypt and Uganda in the fields of water resources, including the water grass resistance projects in the Great Lakes, which has been implemented since 1999 to resist weeds in tropical lakes using Heavy mechanical equipment in four stages, during which many achievements were achieved, such as raising the standard of living of the Ugandan citizen through the opening of fishing channels that were blocked by floating grasses in the outlets of the tropical lakes, The berths river is the most important Gaba beach in the Ugandan capital Kampala as well as Masisi beach in Jinja, which helped to revive the fishing business and trade in fish and facilitate the transport of goods and passengers, and then crowned this cooperation through the water weed management project Blaketa Kyoga and Albert, which wraps up its activities in the workshop.
The participants in the workshop expressed their happiness with the success of this experimental project and asked to disseminate this experience in more areas on the lakes. This project has positive results on the quality of water, providing the appropriate environment for fish and increasing the income of the citizens benefiting from the project.
