Telecom is looking with major Japanese companies to establish research and development centers in Egypt

A high-level delegation of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology [MCIT] held a number of meetings with Japanese companies as part of their participation in the meeting of the Group of 20 ministries of digital economy in Japan.

The meeting discussed the possibility of establishing a regional branch in Egypt serving the regions of Europe, the Middle East and Africa, as well as the possibility of establishing a research and development center for the company in Egypt similar to that of the company in Europe to develop its products focused on the development of embedded systems, giant data, cloud computing, AI, automated learning, cybersecurity and data science.
The meeting also reviewed the possibility of implementing joint research and development projects in Egypt in cooperation with various ministries to find technological solutions in various sectors, including agriculture and transportation, as well as cooperation in technical support for information technology. The delegation also met with Nujoichi Takatsuna, Fujitsu's Executive Vice President, where they discussed ways to capitalize on the company's expertise in establishing a regional center for excellence in Egypt and a research and development laboratory and IT support service serving the EMEA region focusing on cloud computing, , Cyber security, digital transformation, and AI, as well as aspects of cooperation in capacity-building.

The delegation met with Dr. Shigeru Yamauchi, President of the Assistive Technology Development Corporation, and Dr. John Ishikawa, Vice President of the Foundation. The meeting discussed the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation between the two sides. Mechanisms of communication between Egyptian and Japanese researchers in the field of assistive technology, and supporting joint cooperation and communication between innovators, researchers and Egyptian and Japanese companies in the field of advanced technology, as well as cooperation in the Arabization of application Japanese designed jigs.

The ministry delegation and Dr. Mitsu Ochi, President of the University of Hiroshima, signed a letter of intent to discuss opportunities for joint cooperation between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Hiroshima University to provide distinguished educational services for the Egyptian youth through sharing and exchanging experiences, developing educational curricula, Capacity building; in the areas of Internet stuff, data science, AI and cybersecurity.
