Photos .. Training course on river transport for 30 trainees from the Nile Basin

The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation organized a training course on river transport through a training program entitled "River Transport – Opportunities and Challenges" for 30 trainees from the Nile Basin countries during the period from 9 to 13 June 2019. Within the framework of capacity building within the activities of the Maritime Linkage Project between Lake Victoria and the Mediterranean, funded by the African Development Bank.

The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation stressed that Egypt is always keen to provide full support to all African countries in general and the Nile Basin countries in particular and working to achieve cooperation and integration among the basin countries, especially under the presidency of Egypt of the African Union.

The ministry explained that the Maritime Corridor project, which is being implemented under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, aims at linking the participating countries with a relatively cheap, safe and non-energy transport system capable of transferring the traffic generated in all types and sizes. And facilitate access to regional and global markets and contribute to strengthening and strengthening the status of the region in the global economic system.

It is worth mentioning that the training program is organized in cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority within the activities of the first phase of feasibility studies for the project, which also included the preparation of the study "Institutional and Legal Frameworks and Identification of Training Needs" which was approved by the participating countries during the fourth Steering Committee meeting held in Cairo in October 2018.

It is worth mentioning that the training program aims at introducing the Egyptian experience in establishing the new Suez Canal, evaluating the economic benefit of the implementation of the navigational corridor and its impact on the regional and international trade and the surrounding areas and presenting the methods of management of navigational roads and the economics of port operation for sustainable development.

It is worth mentioning that this training is the second to be organized within the capacity building activities of the project. The training program "Introduction to River Transport" was organized in February 2017 in cooperation with the River Transport Regional Institute of the River Transport Authority.

It is worth noting that the pre-feasibility studies for the project have been completed and approved by all participating countries in 2017. All activities of the first phase of feasibility studies were completed in December 2018 using only 74% of the resources allocated to the project. July 2019.
