Captain of Agriculture: Crocodile licenses grants Egypt the right to benefit from its products internationally

The Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Sayed Khalifa, expressed his support for the Ministry of Agriculture granting licenses for the establishment of crocodile farms through the Wildlife Department of the Zoo as one of the authorities responsible for the protection of wildlife and threatened animals, including crocodiles in strict accordance with the Ministry of Environment and concerned bodies. Khalifa said in a press statement on Sunday that the establishment of farms to produce alligators must be done through strict control of these farms, adding that the granting of licenses to engage in such activities helps to reduce smuggling and trafficking in illegal ways.
He added that the establishment of crocodile production farms is not contrary to the CITES agreement signed by Egypt, an international agreement that includes all countries of the world (each country according to the quantities of crocodiles it has), to preserve crocodiles, pointing out that Egypt succeeded in allowing the transfer of crocodiles from the banned annex In accordance with the CITES Convention for the Conservation of Wildlife from the extinction risk of the permitted extension and the economic exploitation of crocodiles according to breeding programs in these farms outside the natural breeding areas of Lake Nasser, and the establishment of crocodile farms will have economic feasibility at all economic levels, tourism promotion and industrial production.
The President of the Agriculture Council that 11 African countries have been able to transfer the alligator to Appendix "B" Convention "Cites", which allows trade with specific requirements, and seven of them are allowed to export 1600 skins per year within the threshold set by the "Cites", and two countries are Zambia and Zimbabwe Their export quota is open, and only two countries do not have a share, namely Botswana and Egypt, from 41 countries in Africa where crocodiles are present, noting that licensing crocodile farms and informing the international agreement of these licenses allows Egypt to export and trade in crocodile products.
Khalifa pointed out to the importance of establishing a city for crocodile farms under the eyes of state control. The huge investment in this city is made to ensure the diversification of the economic benefits of the project.
