Brazilian President Javier Paulsonaro has visited the hospital after being injured in the right ankle, denying him participation in the Copa America, which will kick off in the Latin American country on June 14.

Paulsonaro had earlier expressed his support for the Paris Saint-Germain striker on charges of rape by a Brazilian model.

"I have to attend the Brazil match today, and I hope Neymar's embrace before the meeting, the young man is going through a difficult period, but I believe in his innocence, Neymar, we are on your side tonight," the president told reporters ahead of Brazil and Qatar friendly.

He did not complete the match, which ended with a 2-0 victory over Brazil because of the injury he was taken to a hospital in Brasilia.

"On a visit to the hospital in Brasilia, I wish him a speedy recovery," he said.

The Brazilian Football Confederation announced the absence of Neymar from the Copa America tournament because of the injury suffered in Qatar's friendly.

"After a right ankle sprain during Wednesday's game against Qatar, Neymar underwent tests that showed torn ankle ligaments," the federation said in a statement.

"Given the seriousness of the injury, Neymar will not have the physical condition nor the time to participate in Cuba 2019 in Brazil," he said.
