The activities of the African Training Program for the Nile Basin Countries, under the title "Internal Water Navigation – Opportunities and Challenges", organized by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority, took place from 9 to 13 June under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, At the Tulip Hotel in Ismailia Governorate and the Maritime Simulation and Training Center of the Authority, in order to support the efforts of the human cadres required for the implementation of the linking project between Lake Victoria and the Mediterranean Sea financed by the African Development Bank.

A statement issued by the Suez Canal Authority stressed Egypt's keenness to provide full support to all African countries in general and the Nile Basin countries in particular, as well as to achieve cooperation and integration among the basin countries, especially under Egypt's presidency of the African Union.

He pointed out that the technical and economic feasibility of the project of the navigation corridor, which is implemented under the auspices of President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi to link Lake Victoria and the Mediterranean, is based on linking the participating countries with a relatively cheap and safe and non-energy transport method that has the ability to transport the traffic generated in all types and sizes, And tourism between the countries participating with each other and with the countries of the world and facilitate access to regional and global markets and contribute to strengthen and strengthen the status of the region in the global economic system.

For his part, the head of the Suez Canal Authority, Chairman of the General Authority for the Canal, said that the training program prepared by the Training Department in the Authority and participate with a group of specialists in the Suez Canal Authority. The program will be presented over five days, during which the Egyptian experience will be reviewed in implementing the new Suez Canal project in record time. The feasibility study will be carried out to implement the planned navigation corridor linking Lake Victoria and the Mediterranean Sea. , As well as the presentation of navigational methods and the economics of port operation for sustainable development.

Dr. Ahmed Bahaa El Din, President of the Nile Water Sector, pointed out that the current training program is part of the first phase of feasibility studies for the project, which also included the preparation of the study "Institutional and Legal Frameworks and Identification of Training Needs" Which was held in Cairo in October 2018.

He added that this training is the second to be organized within the capacity building activities of the project. The training program "Introduction to River Transport" was organized in February 2017 in cooperation with the River Transport Regional Institute of the River Transport Authority.
