Liverpool fear a repeat of Valencia's Spanish nightmare, which lost the Champions League final in 2000 and 2001 in front of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. Liverpool lost the final against Real Madrid 1 – 3.

Liverpool managed to secure their place in the Champions League final for the second time in a row, after winning a historic win over Barcelona in a clean quarter in the match at Anfield, in the semi-final of the Champions League final, and Liverpool won the "Rimontada" after the defeat In a 3-0 win at Camp Nou, to qualify for the final of the Champions League, while Tottenham booked their place in the Champions League final at the expense of Ajax Amsterdam.

This is the second time in history that an English club has met in the final of the Champions League after Manchester United beat Chelsea in the 2008 final.
