"Towards the East" .. The Cairo Biennial in its 18th session .. What is meant?
The Fine Arts Sector is preparing for the thirteenth session of the Cairo International Biennale, entitled "Towards the East" after a stoppage of more than 8 years, with the participation of 80 artists from 50 countries where the works of the Palace of Arts, the Museum of Modern Egyptian Art, June until August 10.
"We are aware that in the past ten years, the Orient has become the focus of the whole world's attention, with all kinds of turmoil, so the East is being looked at," said artist Ihab Al Laban, the leader of the Biennial. With all its positives and negatives. Hence the idea, because the arts over the past ten years are beginning to take a clear political direction according to the events that have emerged in the East.
"Looking towards history, we will see that it is a basic source for artists," he added. "Towards the East" is not meant solely for political direction. From my point of view, Egypt is an authentic and important part of the Middle East. Hence, Egypt continues to be the recipient of all the world's artists on its soil and history attests to it.
The current session is hosted in three sites belonging to the Fine Arts Sector, the Palace of Arts and Art Complex Aisha Fahmy Palace and Museum of Modern Egyptian Art.
