Health and Medical

Health experts in Nigeria have revealed a new case of poliovirus in the sewage in the Darmanwa Ward district of Taruni district in northern Nigeria's Kano state, the first in the region declared polio free for three years.

Health experts said that the polio virus is often associated with poor environmental sanitation, and although the child can not be paralyzed, it is a threat of poliovirus.

Nura Haruna, local government health care coordinator in Taruni, told reporters that the virus was suspected to have originated from the local government of Zarya in Kaduna State where two cases of the virus were detected earlier this year.

"Prior to this discovery in Taruni, there were two cases registered in Zarya, so we suspect that either the infected children traveled to Kano to spread the disease or that the poliovirus came through sanitation because of poor environmental sanitation in the area because we had some Scientific tests We discovered the virus within the sewage area of the local government "He said.

The local official said that after the discovery, all children under five years of age in the region were at risk of becoming infected with the poliovirus, and the Ministry of Public Health and local authorities organized a vaccination campaign in the area to prevent the spread of the virus.
