On this day, the first American spacecraft mounted on the moon

science and technology

Did you know that the first American spacecraft to ascend to the Moon was unmanned by humans, but was an exploratory vehicle, launched on June 2, 1966, where landed "Surveyor 1" of NASA on the moon.

According to Space, the Surveyor 1 picked up more than 11,000 moon images along with other measurements, but more importantly, they proved that the landing technique and the designs of the spacecraft were intact.

NASA scientists believed that the space probe's landing would have taken many attempts, but were surprised at its initial success. It was an exhilarating surprise, while the Soviet Union at the time had preceded them to the moon, but it needed several attempts to reach a successful landing in a probe Luna 9.

This mission paved the way for the first human landing on the moon by Apollo 11 after only three years in 1969.
