Minister of Antiquities: The political leadership is keen to develop and promote the archeology sector

The Minister of Antiquities, Dr. Khalid Al-Anani, stressed the keenness of the political leadership on the development and advancement of the archeology sector, which was reflected in a large extent on the increase in the percentage of archaeological discoveries significantly.

This came during his speech before the African Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives on Sunday, headed by MP Tareq Radwan to review the plan of the Ministry on the promotion of Egypt tourism in Africa, especially after the reduction of tickets for the entry of African brothers to museums and archaeological areas.

Al-Anani said that the political leadership supported the antiquities sector, which enabled it to bring many missions to Egypt, pointing out that in the past period we did not have any archaeological missions until 2016, and now we have 80 archaeological missions, including 40 missions of Egyptian universities.

Al-Anani stressed the importance of having specialized scientific qualifications in the fields of museum management, excavations and management of archaeological sites, pointing out that he will study the possibility of establishing a specialized academy in the rehabilitation of workers in the archaeological field.

Al-Anani pointed to the success of the Ministry of Antiquities in the opening of several closed museums, where 10 museums were opened out of 29 closed museums, pointing out that 8 more museums will be opened soon.

The minister stressed the importance of developing the archaeological and tourist awareness among the workers in the archaeological areas. He pointed out that for the first time, the Antiquities Law stipulated a fine for anyone who harassed tourists during their visits to archaeological areas.

On the Museum of Civilizations in Fustat, the minister confirmed that before the end of 2019 two large halls will be opened in the Museum of Civilizations in Fustat, including a special hall for the beauties. He will coordinate with the Prime Minister to develop the area surrounding the museum.

The minister stressed the ministry's readiness to cooperate with civil society organizations to achieve the public interest and does not conflict with the laws, pointing out the presence of a number of missions for the restoration of antiquities came to Egypt in cooperation with civil society.
