Watch out .. High blood pressure raises the risk of color blindness

Health and Medical

NEW YORK [Reuters Health] – High blood pressure can affect the eye in terms of color vision and lead to loss of vision, although researchers do not yet know what causes this association, a recent study shows.

According to the American medical site "MedicalXpress"Dr. Rashid Al-Saadia, an ophthalmologist at the Montefiore Medical Center in New York, said damage to certain parts of the eye can occur as a result of high blood pressure, which eventually leads to blindness.

He continued that it is possible that poor vision of color can be a sign of future problems related to blood pressure, also known as hypertension, but long-term studies are needed to derive the relationship.

He noted that it would be great, as impaired vision of acquired color can be a predictor of complications of high blood pressure in the future.

Dr. Takuhi Shoji of Saitama Medical University in Japan and colleagues evaluated the relationship between color vision, eye diseases, risk factors associated with the heart, lifestyle and habits. Hypertension was associated with certain eye diseases.

The researchers recruited men aged 20 to 60 who were in active service in Japan's Self-Defense Force in Kyoto.

After taking the researchers into account other factors such as weight for men, cholesterol, blood sugar levels and other eye diseases, they found that with higher blood pressure values, the greater the chances of having a poor vision of color as well.

The researchers noted that the design of the study does not allow them to look at changes in vision or blood pressure over time study also can not prove to cause hypertension is impaired in seeing colors.

The researchers added that it is possible by lowering their blood pressure can reverse problems in seeing colors, but further research is necessary to determine it too.
